What is Vertebroplasty?

Are you a candidate for Vertebroplasty?

At Sun Pain Management, we are partners in our patient’s healthcare journey. With a variety of treatments and modalities available, we create personalized treatment plans to meet each patient’s unique needs. We advocate for our patients and extend a compassionate, multimodal approach to help them manage all aspects of their pain and maximize patient quality of life.

Our team is certified to perform over 40 outpatient procedures at any of our three valley locations.  One of those procedures is vertebroplasty which stabilizes compression fractures in the spine.  Compression fractures in the spine are painful and may be caused by a car accident, a fall, or sports injury.  Compression factures can also be the result of osteoporosis, as osteoporosis is a disease in which the density and quality of the bone are greatly reduced.  As bones become more porous and fragile, the risk of fracture increases, and bone loss goes unnoticed until a fracture occurs.

What is Vertebroplasty?

A balloon is first inflated in the vertebral body to create a cavity into which bone cement is then injected under lower pressure.  The cement hardens, stabilizing the fractures and supporting the spine.

Vertebroplasty is considered a relatively new technique for the treatment of pain caused by vertebral body compression fractures, however physicians have been performing Vertebroplasty for about a decade.  If you would like to learn more about Vertebroplasty or any of the 40+ procedures we offer, contact our office today.  If you have suffered a spine fracture schedule an appointment with one of our certified physicians.  We’re here to help – reclaim pain-free mobility!
